Lois Pope presents Hero Dog Award to Canine War Veteran

At an October 2012 ceremony attended by Hollywood stars and noted philanthropists at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Lois Pope joined the leaders of her organization, the Lois Pope LIFE Foundation, Inc., in presenting the American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards. An annual event that honors dogs who have provided exemplary service to their human companions, the awards ceremony includes eight competitive categories covering everything from professional canines working in law enforcement and military service to ordinary animals that have performed outstanding tasks.

Joined by host Kristin Chenoweth and celebrities such as Betty White, who received the Legacy Award and National Humanitarian Medal from the American Humane Association, Lois Pope personally presented the highest honor at the 2012 event, which went to Gabe, a yellow lab who participated in over 200 missions as a search dog working for the US military in Iraq. During Gabe's tour of duty, he uncovered more than two dozen explosive devices and weapons, saving the lives of countless military personnel.

Those who were unable to attend the ceremony will be able to join the American Humane Association and the Lois Pope LIFE Foundation in honoring these courageous canines through a special November 8, 2012 broadcast on the Hallmark Channel.
